Soon after the Federal Government announced its intentions to close Fort Totten, The Queens Tribune ran a story in their annual April Fool's Day issue, announcing that Disney had purchased Fort Totten and was planning a new super theme park called “Fort Disney”.

The community around Fort Totten erupted.  Homes went on the market as people decided to flee Baysde.  Things returned to normal when word spread that it was a hoax.

FORT TOTTEN TO BE HONORED IN
NATION'S LARGEST MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
On Memorial Day 2008, Fort Totten will be honored with a float in the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade, to show support and keep the memory of Fort Totten alive.  Watch this site for photos!
JACK FEIN: 1917-2008

Jacob "Jack" Fein, the man known as Fort Totten's unofficial historian, died on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 92 years of age.

He was buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery on May 19, 2008.
