Looking For: A special pal of mine, Patricia Miller - now deceased - was born at the hospital just 9 days before me. Her mother had a rough time of it and was still there with Pat when I was born and our mothers were in the same room. Pat and her parents also showed up at Ft. Totten '37-39 and went down to Panama with us. Finally, we got back together again in 1950-51 when we both graduated from Western High School in Washington, DC. Pat married a Spanish Army Officer and resided in Spain until her early death. I am still in touch with her older brother.
Comments: I was born at the Ft. Totten base hospital Sept. 19, 1933 but at the time my dad was stationed at Ft. Hancock on Sandy Hook, NJ. There was no military hospital at that time at Ft Hancock. The post doctor was prepared to send my mother to Ft. Totten by boat if it appeared there would not be time to get there by car (driving around NY Harbor which my parents did to get there).

, After a tour of duty in Hawaii (living on the seawall at Ft DeRussy next to Waikiki Beach (tough duty) from 1934-37 we returned to Ft. Totten and I attended school in Bayside before we were shipped off to Panama in Nov. 1939. I remember watching quite large trees blowing down by the parade ground during the Hurricane of '38.

Looking For: Any of the kids that we hung out with. I was in little league. I was an altar boy and I was a novice photographer developing my own photos at the hobby shop while only 8 years old. My sister Liz was 5 years older than me. There were 6 kids in the family.
Comments: I almost drowned in Little Neck Bay and a Fireman pulled me out of the frozen water in winter when somebodies dingy got loose and a few of my friends tried to retrieve it but chickened out and left me in the boat. Eventually I jumped out also and found that you can't breath in freezing water.

Comments: I cannot believe this site exists. It's amazing what we like to look up in our pasts. I remember living down the road from a rock band that play Pink Floyd all the time. They played down in the basement of the two story houses. Never thought I would actually miss my childhood. I loved venturing into the old fort and investigating the old buildings. And especially Devils Hill. I was just telling my husband and daughter about that hill when it snows.
